Dear Maercker Families,

As I walk the halls of Maercker School and see all the wonderful things that are happening in the classrooms, it makes me proud to know that our students are in such good hands. Our staff is made up of capable and dedicated professionals who make it their mission to help students achieve their full potential in the areas of academic and personal growth. We are blessed to have students who come through the doors eager to learn and parents who partner with us as we strive to help each child reach success.

Our school improvement goals for the 2010-2011 school year are two-fold. The first one focuses on the core academic area of reading. Our goal is to increase the total number of students who are meeting their projected growth targets in the area of reading by 8% by the end of this school year with an increase of 13% by the end of the 2011-12 school year. Our second goal focuses on school climate, culture and environment for learning. Our goal is to create a climate where all students and staff feel safe, respected, included, and supported. To that end, we will continue with our PBIS program as well as implement a new social and emotional learning curriculum that focuses on empathy, conflict resolution, and problem solving. Both of our school goals align with the District student learning targets.

We at Maercker School are looking forward to a year that is steeped in collaborative efforts on the part of our students, staff, and parents as we work together to make this learning experience of 3rd, or 4th, or 5th grade is the best it can be. Each year is a building block in providing students with success and mastery that gives them confidence in their ability to learn and lays the foundation for a life time of "I know I can".
