  • Dear Maercker Community,

The long standing tradition of excellence in Maercker D60 is the result of a close partnership between our talented staff and involved parent community. During COVID-19, parents and teachers have been working tirelessly to ensure that ALL students succeed. I am excited to announce the kick off of a districtwide opportunity to provide families with invaluable tools and techniques to assist us during these unprecedented times.

Happiness and optimism provide us with an opportunity to operate within the current conditions placed upon us. Scientific research demonstrates that children require positive influences to ensure their social and emotional needs. This is especially true as we battle the pandemic and wrestle with the upheaval in our world. In order to build as many positive influences for our children, D60 has partnered with Harvard Positive Psychology expert Shawn Achor to assist parents and caregivers in building optimistic households. Shawn and his team will work with the D60 community through 6 practical modules that will be released every Friday. During these modules we will explore how our collective happiness, optimism and hope can build a strong foundation of social and emotional wellbeing for every D60 family. Some highlights of the program, include:

    • Deepening student, family, and community development.
    • Exploring positive experiences (like happiness, joy, inspiration, and love).
    • Exploring positive states and traits (like gratitude, resilience, and compassion).
    • Building positive households (applying positive principles within families).

Our collective happiness, optimism and hope is the foundation for the social and emotional wellbeing of all our Maercker Families. The uniqueness and exclusivity of this partnership with Shawn Achor will assist our collective goal to ensure the success of the whole child, and we look forward to each of you joining us with this world class, evidenced-based material.

    Regards,

    Dr. Sean Nugent
