Construction Update - 2/19/19 (Click for more)
Despite significant delays due to permit issues and the extreme weather swings, construction is progressing at both Holmes and Westview Hills.
The final foundation walls and stoop foundation walls were poured in the early part of January. After testing of the design strength was completed, the masonry work began. Masonry work started for the northwest wall that connects the new building to the existing building. The two-story masonry wall was completed and was followed by the scaffolding being erected and installed for the stairway and elevator shaft. Masonry work also began on the east wall connecting to the existing building. Steel work will begin and once the floor decks and steel reinforcements are in place, the entire shell structure will be wrapped in “tenting” allowing work to continue on the inside of the shell. Remember to check the website to view the live camera to see the ongoing process at Holmes.
The footings and foundation walls have been completed. The weather has caused delays on the project related to backfilling and soil-testing. Steel is expected to be delivered around March 5 allowing for construction of the shell structure. The majority of the work at Westview Hills is in the renovation of the interior and will occur during summer break. Some demolition work of storage closets and storage lofts will be occurring during spring break in order to be fully prepared to start the final asbestos abatement process immediately following the last day of school.
