Each year, Westview Hills Middle School asks staff to nominate students for a variety of awards to end the school year. Each award has different requirements and characteristics for staff to consider during nominations. Below is a summary of the awards and the winners for the 2024-25 school year.
American Legion Award
This award is given to students who exhibit exceptional academic performance, as well as extracurricular involvement and leadership ability.

Westview Hills Citizenship Award
The Westview Hills Citizenship Award is given to students who are involved in many extracurricular activities and exhibit exemplary leadership qualities. This award is sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Sixth Grade: Dunja Mijatovic and Suvan Patel
Seventh Grade: Paul Stoklosa-Wlodarczyk and Ava Dzuira
Eighth Grade: Bhaumik Chaturvedi and Anya Linson
Illinois Principals’ Association Award
The Illinois Principals Association recognizes 2 outstanding 8th graders at the IPA Breakfast each spring. The two students recognized this year were selected because of their strong academic performance, leadership skills, service and dedication to others, and because they consistently follow the school’s expectations and treat their peers and teachers with respect and care.

The following three awards are memorial awards that are presented annually in honor of former Westview students or Staff who have passed away.
Don Brezach Memorial Award
This award is given to students who are very honest, courteous, friendly, enthusiastic, and willing to help others.
Callie Madsen and Sebastian Rodriguez
Michael Lynch Memorial Award
The Michael Lynch Award is given to students who exhibit good all around sportsmanship and a winning attitude, though not necessarily in sports only. They possess a positive attitude and are always willing to try. They also encourage others to try their best.
Kelvin Avila-Vazquez and Elena Vlahos
James R. Tilley Memorial Award
The James R. Tilley Award is given to students who always try their best. They have shown dramatic improvement while at Westview Hills and continually exhibit a good attitude and work ethic.
Belgude Ankhbayar and Felix Jacques
Elizabeth Orrico Memorial Award
The Elizabeth Orrico Award is given annually to honor Ms. Orrico’s commitment to Westview hills and language education. The Elizabeth Orrico award is given to two students who demonstrate kindness, enthusiasm, and a passion for learning another language. Demonstrating compassion and love for all people, an upstanding citizen in our Westview Hills Community, both inside and outside of school, we are proud to award as the recipients of the Elizabeth Orrico Memorial Award.

IESA Scholar Attitude Award
Annually, the IESA recognizes students who have maintained a high academic standard while actively participating in extracurricular activities through the IESA Scholar Attitude Award. These students are honored each year at the IESA Celebration of Excellence.

These awards are given collaboratively by teachers of specific subject areas to 8th grade students who have exhibited clearly superior achievement in their specific subjects their 8th grade year.
