Congratulations to the boys who represented Westview Hills at the IESA state track and field meet this past Friday and Saturday. Eli was the first to compete on Friday in the discus throw and he threw 107 feet and although he did not throw as far as he hoped, this was Eli’s second year in a row competing at state which is an accomplishment in itself.
Next our 7th grade relay team of Amare, Finn, Sam, and Fabio who gained valuable experience competing against the best runners in the state and finished in 20th place.
Our 8th grade relay team of Armani, Taj, Aayush, and Theo were next on the track and they finished in 18th place. Yebby next competed in the mile run where he broke his own school record and finished in 3rd place! Yebby’s time was a spectacular 4 minutes and 37 seconds!
On Saturday, Diego joined Yebby in the 800 meter run. Diego ran his 2nd fastest time of the year and finished in 25th place and Yebby earned his 2nd medal and 2nd school record of the weekend while finishing in 6th place in 2 minutes and 6 seconds.

The girls’ track and field team had a busy weekend at the state meet. The meet started out with the 7th grade medley relay of Nuriah, Zamara, Mila, and Maddie who ran their hardest and achieved a new PR and finished 14th in state.
It continued with the 8th grade medley of Adrianna, Shreeya, Lila, and Melanie also racing to a new PR. Sophia competed in shot put and finished in 10th place. Reese ran her hardest in the 100 meter dash and improved upon the school record she already set earlier this season to a new top time of 12.95 seconds in the prelims which ended up being the fastest time all day for her class at the state meet. She ultimately finished in 4th place in the finals and earned an all state medal.
Maddie ran a huge PR in the mile with a time of 5 minutes and 23 seconds moving up to the 2nd best mile time on the Westview hall of fame and earning an all state medal for finishing in 6th place.
The next day kicked off with the 7th grade 4 x 200 relay of Mila, Nuriah, Zamara, and Keniyah as well as the 8th grade 4x200 relay of Shreeya, Adrianna, Lila, and Reese achieving a new personal best time. On Saturday, Sophia finished in 6th place and earned an all state medal in discus with a throw of 85 feet, 6 inches. Maddie competed in the 800 meter run and ran a new personal best of 2 minutes, 27 seconds moving up the the 3rd best time on the Westview hall of fame as well as earning an all state medal for finishing in 8th place. The 4x400 relay of Adhishna, Lila, Reese, and Maddie set a new personal best for the season.
The final event of the meet was high jump in which Nuriah remained focused and earned all state finishing in 3rd place with a jump of 4 feet 10.5 inches.
Overall, the girls’ team earned 5 all state medals at the state meet!

Students at Westview Hills had the chance to send a letter to students at a school in Cuba! They typed their letter and translated it into Spanish before sending it off to Ms. Lopez who is coordinating getting the letters to Cuba. More than 90 students took advantage of this opportunity to connect with students through meaningful writing! #d60learns

We’re highlighting our 8th graders as they get ready to venture onto high school near year! Matt C. will head to Hinsdale Central in the fall, but reflecting back on his time in Maercker D60, his favorite memory was going on the Washington D.C. trip. Mrs. Moffett is a teacher that has left an impact on him, and as he looks to the future, he hopes to become an engineer. He shared some advice: “Middle school really isn't as scary or as bad as you think and after a while you will actually start to enjoy it.”

It's Wacky Wednesday at Westview Hills and because the 6th grade won the April attendance Trophy, they got to vote on what Dr. Scott would wear for the day. He and Assistant Principal Meehan are looking very fashionable! #d60learns
We’ve asked our 8th graders to offer their aspirations and advice as they get ready for high school in the fall! Frank I. shared that his best memory from his time in Maercker District 60 was playing in Guitar Club. He said that Mrs. Cook is a teacher that left an impact on him because “she has always been kind to me and helped me when I needed help.” Frank plans on becoming a finance manager in the future, and shared his advice for incoming middle schoolers: “Study for tests, be good, and don't give up!”
Some of our fifth grade beginning band members put on a short concert of solos and ensembles for the second floor residents of Burgess Square nursing home and rehab center yesterday! It was a great opportunity for students to experience playing alone for an audience and putting together small ensembles with independent parts. There were lots of tapping toes and sing-a-long moments! #d60learns

Her literature piece, "The Last Chair," received the Award of Excellence, and she is the first Maercker D60 student to achieve this level of recognition since we began participating in the program in 2020. Sreyashi is one of only three students from Illinois to receive this prestigious national honor. This year, National PTA received nearly 950 submissions from 42 states with 247 students recognized for their artistic achievements. As a national winner, Sreyashi has received a Young Artist Scholarship. We are incredibly proud of this amazing accomplishment! #d60learns
