The Westmont Park District is hosting a Community Planning Workshop in order to gather community input on the future of the park district. It takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the WPD Administrative Center.

Students at Holmes recently got to do a fun activity in the library! They read some silly books and we played games to learn about Book Care. Students acted as detectives to solve clues about how to take care of our library books at home! Ask your child how they can keep their library books safe. #D60learns

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, 7th and 8th graders in Mrs. Konidaris’s and Mrs. LaPointe’s classes created a vibrant collaborative mural. The school community is also tuning in during morning announcements to hear biographies highlighting Hispanic figures who have made lasting contributions to American society. #d60learns
Holmes student had a great time in the Library last week learning about some stations ahead of the exciting upcoming Holmes Day of Play which takes place on Sept. 30! They learned about taking turns, sharing, coding and practiced our critical thinking skills! #d60learns
These Maercker Wildcat were selected for being Kind, Safe and Responsible. They also demonstrate one or more pillars of the Wildcat Code: Effort in Academics, Responsible with time and focus, Follow School Rules, and being Respectful.
Dual kindergarten class recently learned about the weather in Spanish. They explored how clouds and rain work with a fun, hands-on experiment using shaving cream, water, and food coloring to create their own clouds and watch the “rain” fall through them. 🌧️💧
Teacher Laura Koschnitzke said, “As we observed, we talked about what we noticed and practiced using our Spanish weather words: la nube (cloud), la lluvia (rain), el agua (water), and el tiempo (weather). In Dual Kindergarten, we build our Spanish language skills while exploring, questioning, and learning about the world around us!”

Last week, the girls’ Westview Hills cross country team competed against O’Neill and Gower.
They raced hard with almost every girl setting a new PR! While they defeated O’Neill, Gower ended up winning. The girls will end the regular season with a winning record of 7-4. Maddie won the race and improved her spot on the hall of fame to the 2nd best time in Westview Hills history with a time of 11 minutes and 51 seconds. Elise finished in 4th place with a new PR of 14:22. Laurah finished in 10th place. Congrats to the following girls who also set a new PR: Mila, Sahasra, Arina, Leah, Bella, Hope, Zainab, Fatima, Kaitlyn, and Rohasri. Both Kaitlyn and Fatima improved their time by more than 2 minutes!
Your coaches are so proud of you and are excited to see how you continue to improve in the last few races of the season.Good luck girls!

Lab #2 was a sweet success! Our seventh grade FACS students put their measuring and teamwork skills to the test as they baked classic chocolate chip cookies from scratch. The hallways smelled incredible, and the final results were 10/10 delicious! Great job to our rising chefs!
The Maercker D60 Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) is actively seeking additional parent representatives. All D60 parents are invited and encouraged to join BPAC! The first meeting of the 2026-27 school year takes place Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Westview Hills Middle School with free childcare available and options for both in-person and virtual participation. Check out the photos for more information!
The D60 Board of Education has established three standing committees to dive deeper into different district operational areas. These committees meet monthly and currently have board members and administrative team members on them. These committees serve in an advisory capacity to the full Board of Education.
The committees are expanding to involve voices from the community and we are asking for parents and community members to consider getting involved in order to bring a wider perspective into the process. Applications will be accepted until Monday. Oct. 12.

Students started an activity called Literary Spotify that they have been doing on Wednesdays this year. It uses music to help children build listening skills, understand deep ideas, and share how they feel. Instead of just reading words on a page, they practice reading between the lines of a song!
At the top of their worksheet, students write down the Song Name and the Artist or Band.
In section one, Words I Hear, children listen closely and write down eight words from the song. Next to it, section two asks, What Does the Song Say?, where they write the main point of the track in their own words.
Section three is How Do I Feel When I Listen? Children choose a face that matches their mood—joy, sadness, energy, calm, or another feeling—and write a few lines to say why they feel that way.
Near the bottom, section four is My Own View, where they guess what the artist wanted to share with the world. Right beside it, section five asks them to Draw What I Hear, turning the sound into a small sketch or symbol.
At the very end is a Final Thought. Wildcats decide if they would share the song with someone else, who that person would be, and why it fits them. It is a warm, creative way to help young minds think deeper about the world around them. #d60learns

Last week the weather finally cooperated, and the 7th graders got the privilege of enjoying the local Mertz Park in order to demonstrate the law of conservation of energy in their favorite park activities. Exploring science in their world is always worth the trip! #d60learns
