Here’s another fun fourth grade learning moment from the 2024-25 school year. Mr. Leo Hazou and Tavi visited the whole 4th grade and taught the students about service dogs. As a volunteer service dog trainer, he shared how dogs were initially trained, how they are matched with families, and taught students what to do if they see a service dog in public. He also demonstrated some skills Tavi does to help at home with a daughter with autism. The students learned so much and asked many excellent questions to learn more! #d60learns

Holmes families, don’t forget to join us this week for Summer Storytime on the Lawn happening on Wednesday, July 16! Come relax on the lawn at Holmes Primary School and meet new Holmes Principal Mrs. Maldonado and enjoy a picnic lunch while she and Assistant Principal Hansen read some of their favorite books. #d60learns

Before the school year ended, fourth graders at Maercker hosted a special guest! Ms. Rania Talhami visited each class to teach about her experience as a person who experienced becoming blind. She talked about her challenges from being sighted for 45 years to not being able to see instantly, and her commitment to study and become a certified massage therapist after her disability. She shared how technology and apps help her navigate her world, how she learned braille, and spoke about perseverance through hardship. Students were able to see the tools and braille books with their own hands. So cool! #d60learns

Happy Juneteenth! This day commemorates when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned about their emancipation. Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.
