We have started getting out into schools and recognizing staff members for going above and beyond to meet the Gold Standard! Five staff members were selected and surprised in their classroom by Dr. Nugent and his team. Teachers were celebrated in front of their students and there was a lot of excitement! You can nominate a staff member and they might get selected to receive a certificate and an awesome sign for their door too! #d60learns https://www.maercker.org/article/1723786

Congratulations to the Westview Hills boys cross country team who raced this past Friday at Melas Park in Mt. Prospect at their sectional cross country meet. Our Wildcats raced against 15 other schools and Westview Hills finished in 1st place! In a race of 106 runners, our top 5 boys all finished in the top 10 finishers. Our boys showed incredible teamwork and handled the pressure extremely well. Leading the way was Santi in 2nd place. He was followed by Mesfin in 4th, Yebby in 8th, Braden in 9th, and Emmett in 10th. Kasper finished in 16th and Jesus finished in 20th. Our boys qualified for the State meet this Saturday. Out of the 16 schools that participated at our sectional meet, Westview Hills was the only school to qualify both the boys and girls teams to the state meet. Congratulations also to the girls cross country team who competed at their sectional meet on Friday. It was a close race amongst the top 3 teams, and the girls finished in 3rd place which was just 7 points from 1st place but ahead of the 4th place team by 49 points. This means the girls qualified as a team for the state meet this coming Saturday! In a race of 92 runners, Elena finished in 4th place, Isabella in 8th, Maggie in 12th, Maddie in 15th, Eleanor in 30th, Jacey in 34th, and Romia in 43rd. Great job to all the girls for their perseverance in the race and giving their best effort! Congratulations on qualifying for state!

Here’s an awesome program that we do with our partners at Hinsdale School District 86. They offer a yearly course called Invitation to Teach, which is a wonderful opportunity for high school seniors to explore the world of education before they begin their formal college training. Students in the class explore education theory and practice, and then have the opportunity to intern at a local school for approximately 13 weeks. During the internship, the student interns help classroom teachers with a variety of different teaching tasks including grading, copying, bulletin boards, working with small groups, teaching the whole class, organizing the classroom, lesson planning, and much more! This year at Westview we have two students from Hinsdale South, Tommy M. who is teaching with Mrs. LaPointe in 7th grade social studies and Haidee Y. who is teaching with Mrs. Lathrop in 7th grade science. Haidee is also a former Maercker D60 student and it is so awesome to be able to welcome our students back like this! We are always happy to pair with our feeder high schools to provide this opportunity to our future educators.
