Don’t forget that tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov. 20) is an early release day! This will be the last time we remind you on social media since you have all done so well.

Earlier this month, parent volunteers visited a dual language kindergarten classroom to talk about the significance and history of Diwali. Students listened to a story in both English and Spanish and then created their own beautiful versions of rangoli and lit diyas. It was a wonderful cultural experience for our young bilingual learners! #d60learns

The first grade classes also teamed up to learn about and celebrate Diwali. Special guests read a book about Diwali in both English and Hindi, and answered students’ questions. Everybody had a great time getting creative making pretend diyas, which are oil lanterns. This idea that arose from student discussion that they wanted to learn about lots of holidays even if their family doesn’t celebrate some of them, because many people we care about do celebrate them! #d60learns

Sixth grade students submitted their writing to the Indian Prairie Public Library Write-On Competition, and we are proud to announce that we had three winners from Westview Hills! There are lots of acronyms used in education and it can get confusing. MTSS is a very important acronym that provides incredible support and personalized learning for students. We sat down with some of the D60 Admin Team to share more about what this looks like in our district! Read the full story:https://www.maercker.org/article/1867199

The Maercker D60 Preschool for All classes are taught by new teacher Amanda Laurinec who shares her passion for early childhood with her students every day. Check out some of the activities going on in her classroom! #d60learns

It was great to see so many parents and families at Literacy Day at Holmes today! #d60learns

Students in kindergarten read Leonardo the Terrible Monster by Mo Willems and then created their own creative monsters with paint, markers and googly eyes. With help from Mrs. Blake, they learned how to use an app on the iPad called Chatterpix to make their monsters talk about the key events in the story and how to be a good friend in school! #d60learns

Another reminder that tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov. 13) is an early release day!

Thank you to our Maercker School families that contributed to our Wall of Honor and to veterans everywhere. We celebrate your service and your sacrifice today and every day.🇺🇸
