Remember back in February when Westview Hills students participated in a solo and ensemble night? We’ve talked to lots of students and band teachers Mr. Huff and Mrs. Moffett for a closer look at this event. Check out the full story: https://www.maercker.org/article/1537884

Maercker School recently wrapped up the second annual Tournament of Books where 16 picture books, read by 16 teachers faced off every day in March. Students watched and listened to each story and then voted for their favorite until we came down to the championship between The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School (read by Mrs. Setter) vs. Little Pea (read by Mr. Sepich) When the votes were tallied, we had a tie! This is such a fun event; the kids get so excited to take part in the voting process and the teachers have a blast selecting and reading their book. #d60learns

Holmes saw a great turnout last week for Family Math Day including an impressive group of first grade parents. Thank you all for attending, your involvement is so important and appreciated! #d60learns

Students in second grade have been reading about New York in their phonics studies. Mrs. Blake worked with teachers to extend learning to learn more about other states. Students were able to spin the wheel to pick a new state to research and were able to share their research, and learn more about Google tools by making a True/False quiz game for their peers on Google Slides. #d60learns

To all in the D60 community who celebrate, Happy Baisakhi!

Kindergarten students in our dual language program recently created a research project on endangered animals. They chose an animal to research, learned what the animal needs to survive, why it's endangered, and how we can help preserve their habitats. They used their research to create a news report with the green screen to share what they have learned in Spanish! #d60learns

Seventh grade students at Westview Hills chose topics which were important enough for them to bring awareness to the problem, causes of the problem, effects/outcomes, and potential solutions. What a great way to get students involved in civic engagement! #d60learns

To all in the Maercker D60 community who celebrate, Happy Eid!

First grade was learning how people create stories and were able to create their own stop motion animation stories together. They made up their own characters, setting and story, sculpted their characters, and used their own drawings for the settings! #d60learns

Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10 is a non-attendance day for students. See you on Thursday ready to learn!
