We are so proud to be able to recognize the Maercker D60 staff members who go above and beyond and embody the core values of the district and the attributes outlined in our staff portrait. District leaders again reviewed all of the submissions and chose six staff members from recognitions from recent months and surprised them in February! Amy Deang is a differentiation specialist at Holmes who was celebrated for embodying our values of continuous improvement, adaptability, and engaged collaborator. Colleagues shared that she fosters a positive, student-centered approach to data meetings and is willing to collaborate with and coach her peers in order to best support students. Parents have also shared how she instills confidence in their children and serves as a role model who leaves a lasting impression. One staff member summed it up well: “You put all kids first before anything else. I love that about you! You make me a better teacher. Honestly, I simply enjoy working with you! Thank you for making learning and teaching fun! Thank you for being AWESOME!” Congratulations on being the Gold Standard!

First Graders were learning about what a narrator is in a story, along with writing a story with a beginning, middle and ending. They used Harold and the Purple Crayon as a guide to create their own crazy adventures with their purple crayons and used the green screen to act them out and got to be the narrator of their own story! #d60learns

Students in second grade recently read about Helen Keller and learned about how hard life would be if you could not hear or see. They learned about Braille, and then were able to use Tinkercad to 3D print keychains with their names in Braille to take home. #d60learns

THEY DID IT! The Westview Hills JV volleyball team are REGIONAL CHAMPIONS after an incredible win against Herrick last night. The first set was an absolute thriller-back and forth, back and forth, but in the end, our team battled their way to a 32-30 victory. Riding that momentum, the girls gave it everything they had in set 2- communicating, hustling, and leaving it all on the court to secure the championship win in straight sets. A special shoutout to Andi M., who was awarded the Sportsmanship Award last night. An incredible honor that speaks to the character and heart of this team. A huge thank you to Dr. Scott and Ms. Constantine for coming out to support the team.

Building on the momentum of their conference success, Westview Hills made an impressive showing. Every Westview player won at least three matches. Three students won an individual medal, and the 7th grade team finished in a tie for 5th place. Congratulations to Bhaumik C. who won a bronze medal and became the first Westview student to earn an individual medal three years in a row. Also winning a bronze medal was DJin C. and is his 2nd medal in two years with the team. Aayush A. had a spectacular tournament by starting out 7 and 0 and ending as one of only five 7th graders in the tournament to win a silver medal.
