The boys volleyball team defeated Herrick yesterday to become the 2025 SDEAA Boys Volleyball Champions!
The team was firing on all cylinders, connecting on strong attacks, making outstanding defensive plays, and displaying great communication to help lead them to victory. Imran and Niko played super tough at the net, Shashank and Vinnie played strong defense in the back row, Sri, Braden, and Rituraj connected on several attacks, and Sorbilig's serves were on fire. Coach Hosman is proud of the entire team for their dedication this season and for coming together to achieve season goal!

Science Fair for 7th and 8th graders can progress to the Regional and State levels. This year, six students from Westview planned and carried out their own experiments, writing a detailed lab report, and made it to the State Exposition in Urbana Champaign, where they competed for $60,000 of prizes and scholarships. It was a grueling ordeal with over nine hours of judging, but our students did an amazing job. Aayush, Bhaumik and Rituraj, and Sreyashi and Madhurya all placed in the gold category for their projects, with Bhaumik and Rituraj receiving the Thermo Fisher Prize for being in the top 10% of all projects. Angel received a special cash prize for Outstanding Use of the Metric System. Way to go, Wildcats!

Maercker School families, come view your student's hard work in STEM and fine arts at the Art, Books, and Beyond Fair at Maercker School on Thursday, May 15 from 5-6:30 p.m

The Westview Hills Future Problem Solvers compete in teams of four, trying to apply the six step problem solving process to complex issues anticipated for our society’s future. In competition, students have two hours to read a setting scene from 20 to 40 years in the future, develop 16 potential challenges based on that scene and their background research, distill those challenges to an underlying problem, generate solutions to solve that problem, create a rubric to determine the qualities of the best solution, apply the rubric, and then develop an action plan. Later, students create a 3-4 minute oral presentation to sell their action plan.
This year the topics were Food Security, Agricultural Industry, and for State, Nanotechnology. While the Wildcats did not place in the written packet, there was a lot to celebrate!
-The team with Madhurya, Sreyashi, Jessica, and Angel got 6th in oral presentations
-The team with Aayush, Giovanni, Bhaumik, and Alex got 3rd
-The team with Ayla, Nour, Georgia, and Shreeya got 2nd place in their division.
-Last but not least, our team with Sana, Adhishna, Vaishnavi, and Vihaan did the best of all the teams at their written packet.
Good job all!

Sophia S. is up for Ask an 8th Grader! She will be going to Hinsdale Central next year.
What is your best memory of your time in Maercker District 60?
I truly enjoy every day. If I had to choose my best memory I would say talking with my teachers and classmates and them making me laugh. Another memory that I had is if you are in SLT (student leadership team) there is Step up day for the fifth graders and it’s where they come to Westview and you get to talk to them about Westview and what to expect and I truly enjoy it.
Who is a teacher who made an impact on you during your time here?
Every teacher has made an impact on me. If I had to choose a few I would say Ms Pervan, Mr Larson, and Ms Regalado.
What are you interested in doing for your future?
I’m not sure yet but maybe something with kids
What advice do you have for students starting at Westview Hills Middle School next year?
My advice for students starting at Westview Hills is try your best and don’t be afraid to ask questions because the teachers are always there to help you. You can also go in during WIN. Also have fun because three years will go by really fast, especially 8th grade.

-Masood R. did a fabulous job in his first meet helping the relay team of Sean, Jason and Suvan place 6th in the 100 free relay
For the girls team, Miriam K., Sreyashi N. and Amy Z. sped down the lane in the 25 free event. Vaishnavi braved through multiple events in breaststroke, and Adrianna Q. flew down the pool in the 25 butterfly event. Great work!

April was Arab American Heritage Month and students at Holmes heard about the language and calligraphy, architecture, music, food, clothing and viewed maps and flags of Arabic countries. Thanks to the parent volunteers that helped make this happen! #d60learns
